Welcome to Year 3!

Autumn 2 Term – 2026

Important Information

PE

P.E. will be on a Friday!

Our focus for PE this half term is Rugby.  Please come into school in your PE kit ready.  A reminder of the PE kit information is;

  •         Black shorts/leggings/tracksuit bottoms
  •         White top
  •         Black Pumps. 
*Remember all of your clothes need to be labelled with your name to prevent lost clothing items. Thank you*

 In PE this term the children will learn dance. The pupils will learn to create a dance to a theme and learn about timing and fluency with their movements. 

Spellings

Each week spellings will be shared on the class dojos on a Monday. Please practice the words each week at home. We will practise these words during the week in school as well to help the pupils learn the spelling patterns. Spellings will be tested on a Friday.

Homework

Maths: Please complete TT Rockstars or Times Table me:https://www.timestables.me.uk/

 

Reading

Children in Year 3 are expected to read their reading book at least 3 times a week to an adult at home. Children will be expected to read everyday in school during their guided reading lessons.  Reading is also counted as homework. 

Please bring reading books in regularly so that they can be updated to match the pupils reading levels. Thank you

 

English
This second Autumn half term we will be enjoying two texts in our English lessons.
The first book is Fox written by Margaret Wild and Ron Brooks. We will use this book to help us write an Information Text.
 
Our second text is entitled: The Grumpy Ghost Upstairs written by Mamiko Shiotani. We will use this text to help us write a Ghost Narrative. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Maths 
For maths this half term we will continue to focus our learning addition and subtraction. We will learn to add and subtract a 3 digit number with ones, tens and hundreds including solving problems.
 
The pupils will also engage in multiplication and division this half term and focus on learning the 3, 4 and 8 times tables. 
 
Science
Our science topic this half term is Forces and Magnets
Pupils will learn:
  • to compare how things move on different surfaces. 
  • magnets can attract or repel each other and some materials.
  • describe magnets as having two poles. 
  • predict whether magnets will attract or repel each other depending on which poles are facing.
Geography
 
Our geography topic this half term will focus on villages, cities and towns. 
The pupils will learn what a settlement is and name a village, town or city in the UK. Year 3 pupils will use four figure grid references and learn about the 8 points of a compass. We will also learn about key topographical features including hills, mountains and coasts.
