Foundation 2

A very warm welcome to all our Foundation 2 children, families and prospective families.

At Cathcart Street Primary School. Foundation 2 is the first year that your child will attend school all day. The children are expected to arrive at school for 9:55, will stay at school until the end of the day at 3:25. All children are entitled to a free school lunch which is served at 12:00.

In Foundation 2, there remains a large focus upon child centred and play based approaches to learning were the children will have the opportunity to consolidate and extend their learning through continuous provision.

In our classroom and outdoor area we learn and explore through a range of experiences and learning opportunities. Our classroom and outdoor areas include:

• Reading area
• Writing/mark making area
• Construction area
• Role play area
• Small world area
• Craft area
• Calm space
• Playdough area
• Fine motor challenge area

 The children thoroughly enjoy sharing their outdoor space with the younger Foundation 1 children, modelling good communication and social skills and it allows then to share their knowledge and skills.

However, in Foundation 2, the children are expected to engage in more adult directed tasks and lessons. The children will participate in daily Phonics and Maths lessons, alongside a range of other curriculum areas.
