Welcome back everyone, I hope you had an enjoyable summer break.   It has been lovely to see all the children full of excited anticipation at the start of another school year.

Staffing News

We have a number of new members of staff who have joined the school this September, so a special welcome to the following new colleagues of the Cathcart team:

Mrs A. Gale – Year 6 class teacher (Wednesday – Friday)

Mrs S. Hancock - KS2 intervention Teacher (Tuesday – Thursday)

Miss S. Murphy - Year 3 Class Teacher

Mr M. McGovern - PE Teacher (Tuesday & Wednesday)

Mr L. Morgan - Year 4 Teaching Assistant

Miss M. Gibb - Foundation Teaching Assistant

Attendance and Punctuality

I would like to remind everyone that headteachers are not able to authorise holiday leave. There are, however, some exceptional circumstances where leave may be granted and examples of these are given on the Attendance Policy which can be found on the Policies section of the school website.

Shortly we will be launching a whole school drive to improve punctuality during 2017/18.  I will write to parents separately about the plans and how you can support your child and the school.

End of Day Procedures

The school day finishes at 3.25pm.   Please arrive promptly at your child’s classroom door to collect them.   Any child not collected by 3.30pm will be sent to the school office.

If you are going to be late please telephone the school office.   This means that we can relay a message to the class teacher and communicate direct with your child/ren and save any unnecessary concern.

Last year, a number of parents were regularly late collecting their children.   From September we will be monitoring children that are collected late and request a reason from parents for the lateness.   We will use this information to discuss concerns with you.

School Meals

Meals are £2.25 for each meal or £11.25 for the whole week.   Meal orders and payments must be received in school by 9.00 am on a Monday morning for that week.

The task of processing meal orders and payments is a huge task and we would therefore appreciate it if parents could work in partnership with us with the arrangements for ordering and payment.

Medications - Reminder of Procedure

If there have been any changes to your child’s medical condition over the holidays, please ensure you let the school office know.

If your child needs to use an inhaler in school, please ensure you send in two inhalers (clearly labelled with your child’s name) to the school office. One will be kept in the classroom and the other can be retained as a spare in the medical room.

If your child takes any other medication in school, please ensure that a sufficient supply is deposited at the school office, again clearly labelled with your child’s name.   For all medication to be taken in school, including inhalers, you will be asked to complete a medicines form.

Pupils’ Data

Data collection forms will be sent home this week.   It is vital that these forms are returned to us.   Please advise us of any changes to your child’s address, phone numbers, and health or home circumstances.   It is particularly important that we have a minimum of 2 emergency contacts on record for each child.

Uniform, PE Kit, Jewellery and Hairstyles

Please can I remind you that our Uniform Policy extends to jewellery, false nails, nail varnish or make-up.  These are not permitted and must not be worn to school.

We ask that pupils wear black shoes for school.  Trainers and many designs of fashion shoes (high/block heels, platforms/wedges, sandals or open-toe shoes) are not suitable for school. If pupils wear boots to come to school they should bring black school shoes to change into.

Please make sure your child brings their PE kit to school on the first day of every half term in a named pump bag. This will be sent home to be washed on the last day of each half term. Please remember to label your child's PE kit, including their pumps.  Trainers should only be worn for outdoor PE lessons.

Fruit, Healthy Snacks and Water

A reminder that children in Foundation and Key Stage 1 are provided with a healthy fruit or vegetable snack during the school day.   In line with our Healthy Schools Policy, children in Key Stage 2 are also welcome to bring their own healthy snack to eat during morning play – this should be fruit, vegetables or dried fruit.   Snack bars or any other sort of biscuit/crisp snacks are not permitted.

We also ask that parents supply a suitable, named water bottle for their child to have in school.   During the day water bottles are stored in a tray in the classroom and it is therefore vital that bottles are clearly named.

Mobile Phones

Children in Years 5 and 6 may bring mobile phones (no other electronic devices) to school. We believe that this is a sensible safety option for children who may be travelling unsupervised to and from school.   Children in other years are not allowed to bring mobile phones to school.  All mobile phones must be handed to a member of staff and then stored in the school office.  Please note that the school accepts no responsibility for the loss or damage to property brought into school.

Term Dates

A copy of the 2017/18 term dates can be found in the 'School Information' section of this website.

Thank you for your support in ensuring that pupils follow school procedures, I look forward to working with you.

Kind regards,

Deborah Richards (Mrs.)

Headteacher
