In 2012, we established a partnership with a school in China. In October 2012, Mrs Bishop (our previous Headteacher) visited China and met Mr Daquing Sa and the pupils of the Number 1 Affiliated School to the Fuzhou Institute of Education.
Since then, Cathcart Street pupils have been learning about the Chinese language and culture. In addition, pupils from Years 2 to 6 have taken part in regular Mandarin lessons from a specialist Mandarin teacher. Children have been learning phrases from Mandarin Chinese and some pupils have been emailing children from our Chinese partner school.
The pupils at Cathcart Street enjoy learning about the Chinese culture and we have held China themed events and topics and celebrated festivals including the Moon festival in October and Chinese New Year.
In 2014, Mrs Hughes also visited China to reaffirm our partnership and reported that her trip was a wonderful experience. Upon her return, the children from Cathcart Street enjoyed hearing about Mrs Hughes' experiences.
Our partner school has visited Cathcart Street of two occasions, most recently in July 2016. The delegation of staff and pupils attended Cathcart Street over 3 days to experience life in a British primary school.
During the visit, the Chinese students enjoyed many activites including, the English and maths curriculum, art sessions from a leading local artist, PE and DT lessons and a trip to Birkenhead Park with the Forest Schools group.
