Cathcart Street Election 2017

To coincide with the UK General Election on 8th June 2017, Cathcart Street held its own House Captains Election.  The Cathcart houses are Laird, Paxton, Lever and Hamilton and represent local landmarks or people.

Year 5 pupils made rosettes representing the colours of their houses to wear for the occasion.  Candidates from each house prepared manifesto speeches and delivered them to their house groups in every class.

As we are a democracy, our voters had to be registered to be eligible to vote and so completed registration cards.

Dressed to impress, the candidates delivered their speeches and canvassed for votes.  Afterwards, each class took turns to visit the polling stations set up in the hall.  They completed their voting slips and posted them into the ballot boxes for their houses.

The votes were counted and verified and representatives for each house were chosen.   Pupils eagerly awaited the results, which were revealed in Friday's assembly.

We were amazed at the quality of their speeches and the confidence with which they delivered them. Our children learned such a lot about electoral systems and, above all, the importance of voting as votes can bring about change.

Congratulations to all candidates and everyone that participated - we are very proud of you!
